When to Go
The best time to go for camel safari ride is during the cooler months, i.e. from September to March. During this time the weather is quite pleasant during the day time, after which, the desert becomes intolerably hot. Camel safaris are usually initiated in the morning in order to cover a considerable distance and get to an ideal camping spot before dark. 

What to Bring
Since camel safari is usually done during the winter season, woolen clothes are an essential thing to carry during the safari, especially for the cold desert nights. Though camel safari operators provide mattresses, it is advisable to carry a warm sleeping bag and a blanket or two for the night stay. Unlike night, you will experience a scorching heat during the daytime. So make sure to carry a sunscreen, a pair of sun glasses and a sun hat. First aid kit is also an essential thing to carry, as you will not get instant medical attention in desert in case of emergencies. Other things to be carried during a camel safari are toilet paper, soap and a water bottle.

There are a large number of travel agents and tour operators in Rjasthan that organize camel safaris. Most of these are located at the neighborhood of Khimsar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Osian. Long duration safaris that last from seven days to 30 days are available for the hardcore enthusiast. But most of the tourists opt for shorter one day safari. Tourists who prefer to venture deeper into the desert can also opt for the four day safari. The majority of the camel safaris are initiated from the town of Jaisalmer. 

Precautions and advice
Always check the price offered by the tour operators while booking for a place for camel safari. Also get information about the arrangements made by them for accommodation, food, drink and other essentials. While on a safari, make sure to drink 2 to 4 liters of water per day, as you could get dehydrated. Apply sunscreen lotion to prevent from heat. Wear sun glasses and sun hat and also make sure that you do not loiter around while travelling. 

How to Reach
Jaisalmer, where most of the camel safaris are initiated, is very well linked through air, train and road with several parts in India. Another option to get to Rajasthan is Jaipur, the capital city, which is also well connected with air, train and road with various major cities in India. Buses, local taxis and hired cabs connect the major cities in Rajasthan.
