Kanha National Park, a Striking Tourist Destination in Madhya Pradesh

Kanha National Park is a well known wildlife reserve in India which is located in the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh. Apart from the diversity of wildlife inhabiting this place,
it is also popular known among the tourists as a tiger reserve. The park was established in the year 1955 and since then the bio diversity of this national park has been well preserved till now. It will take you around 5 hours drive from Jabalpur and about 6 hours drive from Nagpur in order to reach the Kanha National Park.

Attractions 

Flora
Kanha National Park is not just known for its diverse wild inhabitants but the entire area is also dotted with more than 1000 species of flowering plants. While the lowland area is a mixture of sal and other mixed species of trees, the highland area mostly comprises of tropical moist dry deciduous forest along with bamboos on the slopes.  

Fauna
The area o this national park is inhabited by a large variety of diverse wild animals like the bison, gaur, monkey, black deer, mouse deer, jackal fox, hyena, mongoose, leopard, python, jungle cat, chital and many more. Apart from the wild animals the area has also recorded a diverse variety of bird species like the spur fowl, quails, green pigeons, bee-eater, kingfishers, finches, owls, drongos, egrets, storks, woodpeckers, fly catchers etc.

Besides observing the diverse variety of flora and fauna existing in the Kanha National Park, there is also a museum within the premises of the park which informs you about the park and different species of flora and fauna found over here along with the tribal culture of the region. The museum remains open on all days of the week except on Wednesday. 

Best Time to Visit
Though the park can be visited throughout the year, the best time to visit the place is from February to October. 

Accommodation
There is no need to worry regarding the staying facility while you are on a trip to the Kanha National Park. The place is dotted with various types of resorts and lodges that strive hard to make the visit of the tourists at this place, a comfortable and a memorable one. 

How to Reach
By Air: The closest major airport to this national park is in Nagpur, which is located at a distance of about 300 km. Other airports close to this place are Jabalpur airport and Raipur airport, located at a distance of about 150 km and 250 km respectively. Different types of transport facilities through road are available outside these airports to get to the Kanha National Park. 

By Train: The nearest railway stations to the Kanha National Park are Gondia station and Jabalpur station, located at a distance of about 145 km and 160 km respectively. Regular bus and taxi services are available these stations to reach the park.

By Road: Kanha National Park is easily accessible from various major cities within the state, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.  The major destinations closest to this park from where you will get regular bus and taxi services are Jabalpur (160 km) and Nagpur (300 km).
