The Glass Palace Of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra

The Glass Palace a brilliant attribution of Amitav Ghosh
gives us his noteworthy words to experience an eloquent charm of Thebaw Palace of Ratnagiri. Amitav Ghosh who in his novel tells us the story regarding the approach of twentieth century and the four generation that revolves around the orbit of its entity.

When he described the core of 4 generations he gives us his illustrative view regarding the core of India, Burma, Malay and British. The Thebew palace which has its special chrome within the heart of the people is a large canvas and because of its historical importance the novel really got me going and after completing the pages of an ever wonderful and luminous narration my idea of visiting the site became more and more inevitable.

The sprawling beauty of Thebaw Palace of Maharashtra which was established by British for the last successor of Burma is the most exquisite palace of Maharashtra. As per the history the King lived through the doors of Ratnagiri for over 25 years although the King could have live here but after knowing that the construction which he commissioned was actually an act of exile from British he walked through the site of it.

Years of negligence although could not separate its historical importance and at present the site is maintained and monitor by State Archaeological department. Within its doors you are going to witness the museum. During our trip we came to know that the site had served as Collector residents and then later it had its affiliation with Polytechnic and university centre.

While we were musing around the staff on duty Vinay Netturkar refused our prospect to see the place but later he considered our anxiety and started discussing all the evident and the fact related with Amitav Ghosh who stayed here for months to compile and to complete his book.

You would be shocked to know from the point of Thebaw point you can actually view the Konkan coast, pristine beaches and could even enjoy the magical relief of the Ratnagiri. To sum up Bhatye and Ganeshgule are amongst the magical shore that you will come across within the vicinity of Ratnagiri.

Beside that one must understand the place is renowned for its Alphonso mangoes and what’s more interesting to note is during the time of season the branches and channels of trees passes through the winds of shapely fruits.
When it comes to its historical importance and connection the place is not just renowned for its Thebaw place but one must note that it is the place where Lokmanya Tilak cried his first tears. Here you will witness the old residence of Tilak which is beautifully carved in Konkani architecture but now the blocks serves as a museum that tells us the life story of Tilak.

Beside that the journey here would relate the grandeur of Bhagwati Killa which is another chronological place and from the top of the Killa one can relish the wonders of serene view of the surroundings which depicts the glory of sea.

The Glass Palace of Mr. Ghosh in real reflects the story of royal family’s original palace which is situated at Mandalay.

Well, if you want to explore this exciting site of historical adorned with the bliss of nature, you can come any time of the year except the monsoon season. But the best time to be here is between the months of June to March.
