Know About Some of the Renowned Wildlife Parks and Sanctuaries of India


India is gifted with immense natural beauty, emerald green forest, reserves and the abundant wildlife animals, birds, plants and creatures.
The extra-ordinary blessing of the nature and the availability of the dense forest has given birth to several national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, which are world famous and are home to endangered species of flora and fauna. 

Here in this article, we will have a quick look at some of the well known national parks and sanctuaries of India. 

Periyar National Park (Kerala)
It is the most popular national park in South India. Established in the year 1950, Periyar National Park in Kerala is famous for tiger and elephant reserve, spread over an area of 925 sq. km. The park is home to various species of animals and birds among which the most popular seen inside wild safari are Elephant, Gaur, Sambar, Malabar Giant Squirrel, deer and most of all, cynosure of all eyes remains the tiger. It is a must visit wildlife sanctuary in Kerala, as one can enjoy not just the rich flora and fauna, but have wonderful time enjoying cruise over the picturesque Periyar Lake. 

Gir National Park (Gujarat)
Home to endangered Asiatic Lions, Gir National Park is a renowned and important wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat. In the year 1900, the Nawab of the Princely State of Junagadh declared the area of Gir and its tiger as “Protected” and thus helped in the conservation of lions. In 2010 census recorded the lion count at GIR of 411 and increase of 52 compared to 2005. 

Pench National Park (Madhya Pradesh)
Seated beautifully aside the Satpura Hills, Pench National Park established in the year 1975 is a well known national park in Madhya Pradesh. The National Park is home to many species of endangered flora and fauna and more of all, the park got the name from the river Pench, which flows through the park. Some of the most commonly sighted animals are Sambhar, Nilgai, Wild Boar, Gaur, barking deer, magpie robins and hyena. 

Ranthambore National Park (Rajasthan)
It is the most popular wildlife sanctuary in South Rajasthan; Ranthambore a tiger reserve is located just 130 kms from the state capital city Jaipur. Established as Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary, by the Government of India in 1955, it was declared as the Project Tiger Reserve in the year 1973. In the year 1980, it became the National Park. Some of the most commonly found wildlife species inside the national park are Leopard, Nilgai, Sambar, Hyena, Sloth Bear, Chital and the main habitant Tiger.

There are many other renowned wildlife sanctuaries and national park in India. Some of the few others to mention are Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Kanha National Park, Bandhavgarh National Park (Madhya Pradesh), Bandipur National Park (Karnataka), Kaziranga National Park (Assam), Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand).
