Gokarna, the Temple Town in Karnataka with Serene and Gorgeous Beaches

If you find yourself in the middle of the hot happening beaches of Goa on your every vacation tour and grown tired of the loud music being played in the beach shacks on these beaches, always being surrounded by other tourists.

Then the best option for you would be Gorkarna, which a quaint beach town located right at the tip of Karnataka, at a distance of about 150 km below Goa. I am not a negative critic of the beaches of Goa, but I also like to venture upon new place. So, the next time you start getting tired of regular Goa beach, make it a point to travel further downwards to Gokarna.

How to Get There
By bus: Gokarna is located at a distance of about 150 km from Goa through bus or a drive. As to the short distance of the place from Goa, you can either by hiring a taxi or by bus from the bus stand in Margao.

In a matter of few hours you will reach the temple town of Gokarna. The closest railway stations to Gokarna are Ankola and Kumta, both of which are located at a distance of about 25 km from the temple town.

After getting on the well established roads of Konkan roads, you will come across the hustle and bustle of this pilgrimage town of Kumta. Over here you can buy purchase some essential items and the head towards the sunny beach side of Gokarna. As you leave the main town behind you will feel the ride in altitude that just enough to sight the scenic views overlooking the Kudle Beach.

The other beaches that you can see from this point are Om Beach, Halfmoon Beach and Paradise Beach. The Om beach is the only one that can be reached by road, the rest can be accessed through a brief hike or a boat ride.

Place of Interest
Paradise Beach: Me and my partner headed towards the Om Beach and hiked over some rocks to reach a remote cafe called Shiva Café that is hidden away amidst some undergrowth and rocks. After a cup of tea at this café, we decided to board on a boat and visit the Paradise Beach, which is filled with beach-bums from across the world who had made their residence at this place.

The last time I had visited this place; I had some pleasurable moments of sharing a joint with the temporary residents of this place and also learned that they had come from different parts of the globe.

They had settled in at this makeshift community on Paradise deciding to stay for several months. Their community was entirely self-sufficient, as they fished, they grew some essential vegetables and they partied throughout the night around bonfires.

The scene on the beach had brought back some memories of a Hollywood movie. But this time around, when we visited Paradise, all we could see was a handful of vendors selling tender coconuts and some tourists. When we asked about the earlier settlers of the beach, we were informed that the government had cleared away them as the land belonged to the forest department.

Om Beach: After enjoying the tranquility surrounding the Paradise beach for some time we decided to head back to Om Beach and had a delicious lunch at one of the other cafes that lies on the long stretch of the beach.  After having our lunch, we decided to leisure around for the rest of the day.
I love these peaceful hours when there is no one on the beach to distract you and all that you can hear is the sound of waves gushing up to meet the land and the wind whispering through your ears.

Lying leisurely on the warm sands of the beach with a cup of hot tea or coffee and watching the slowly going down on the horizon of the sea is something that you will surely treasure in Gokarna.
