Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, a Haven for Wide Varieties of Birds in Haryana

The Sultan National Park in Haryana is highly renowned for inhabiting a wide variety of diverse species of birds.
It is located at a distance of about 48 km from Delhi, where both residential and migratory species of birds can be found. This bird sanctuary covers an area of about 1.43 sq km and over 250 species of residential and migratory birds have been recorded at this place. During winter season, the sanctuary witness more than 100 varieties of migratory bird species that fly to this place from Russia, Turkey, Siberia, Afghanistan and East European countries.


Flora

The entire vegetation of this park comprises of tropical and dry deciduous forest. The species of flora found within this park are dhok, tendu, jamun, banayan tree, Acacia nilotica, Acacia tortilis and much more.

Resident Birds

The residential species of birds found in this bird sanctuary are Bank Mynah, Laughing dove, Little egret, Rock pigeon, Black francolin, Indian Cormorant, Painted stork, Indian roller, Black-headed ibis, White ibis, Purple sunbird, Weaver bird etc.

Migratory Birds

The sanctuary witnesses hundreds of diverse variety of migratory birds during the monsoon and winter season. The park turns into a fascinating place with the arrival of these birds from different parts of the world. The diverse species of migratory birds found in this sanctuary during the peak season are Eurasian Wigeon, Black-tailed Godwit, Spot-billed pelican, Common Teal, Ruff, Siberian Crane, Starling, Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, Greater Flamingo, Northern Pintail and much more. The sanctuary also witnesses diverse species of migratory birds during the summers, such as Grey Heron, Comb duck, Cuckoos, Black-crowned Night Heron etc.

Apart from the diverse species of domestic and migratory birds found in this sanctuary, visitors can also see mammals Blue Bull and Black Buck at this place.

The Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is a renowned picnic spot for the residents of New Delhi and other nearby destinations. By Air: The nearest airport to this sanctuary is IGI airport in Delhi, located at a distance of about 45 km. The journey from this airport to the sanctuary will just take you around 20 minutes.

By Rail: The nearest railway station to this sanctuary is New Delhi Railway Station.
